I have a WD 10EZEX that is completely dead. It is not recognized in BIOS, no sound, nothing. I read on a forum here that I should remove faulty TVS diodes from PCB board and faulty means no resistance when measuring over the diode. I found that the meter beeps when measuring over D2 so I removed D2 according to this information but it is still dead. Did I miss something here? Is it a good idea to just go ahead, buy another PCB board to try with or what should be my next step?

Thank you in advance.

If your goal is to recover data from that drive, my advice would be to seek professional help now.
Contact member here: mr_spokk https://forum.hddguru.com/memberlist.ph ... ile&u=6483 Rescue IT Datarecovery, placed in Gothenburg.

If you agree to loose data, go ahead and change the PCB and remember to move ROM. Since you already lifted the shorted TVS, I suspect further damage, most likely preamps are gone as well.

Where is D2?

If you need a replacement PCB + firmware transfer, it should cost no more than US$50 from places like hdd-parts.com.

Look for R67 right below the power pins. D2 is directly below that.

The shorted diode is usually D3. Your photo is blurred, but it appears that D2 is in parallel with D3. If so, then you would need to be mindful of preamp damage, especially if R67 is open circuit.
