I have it attached via an Adaptec 82885T expander which in turns is attached to to a LSI 9305-i24, cold that be the reason?

Shorting the EN pin #6 of the MP5505 chip should have worked. That's what both of us did.

Just to rule it out, I would try it with the drive connected to a regular native SATA port on the motherboard (or a different computer if your motherboard doesn't have those), not HBAs etc. since they maybe act slightly differently to the drive reset. That's just a wild guess though. :)

Thank you, I only tried the HBA ports, in fact I tried the HBA directly and the expander because they were more convenient to access, will try the onboard SATA ports as well and report back here :)
