Hi all,

I had a problem with one of my Maxtor, some chip on the PCB suddenly burnt, first time I get this, and it was quite impressive, at first I fought my whole computer would be on fire.

So now is the usual problem, I need to get my data back, so I have to change the PCB.

I got another Maxtor DiamondMax 10 but with a different model number, the 6L200M0.

The main controller for both cards is an Oscar E5-D4 but the end is different (040118900 and 040121300).

There is another different too, on one it's written "SABRE/SATA/RC2" and on the working one "SABRE/SATA/ROHS"

Do you think the PCB of the working hard drive could work on mine or there is no chance for that ?

If you have a same drive, but a different model and you are wondering, would it match?
How come you have not tryed it ?

If you had, you would not ask that question .

Refrase your question, so we could give you a straight answer, otherwise it could take 1-10 pages to explain everything.

harddrivespecialist the thing is that I have to be sure it can work BEFORE trying, because I bought this drive, the 6L, on a website, and the reference on the website was 6B, but they sent me a wrong one.

So it is more like, do I keep it and try, or do I send it back and get my money back ? They are ok to take it back and unfortunately , I told them why I bought the drive, so if something looks wrong, they will not take it.

And they told me they don't have this model number anymore... so I am just close to get my data back, but I am not sure it worth the try with this drive.

I think like gsimon, that there is no chance it will work, I just wanted to be sure before sending the drive back.

if you fried your pre amp together with something on pcb - you are risking of killing the PCB from the new drive you bought by swapping them, then you will end up with 2 drives that dont work. I sent you a pm.

Hello guyz, some news about this bad drive

So i got a new PCB, nearly the same I think (at least it was advertised as a compatible one for my drive)

The refs on the PCB are : MAEZKYHS R6GBA 27015RRJHM (on the right, close to the connectors)

SABRE/SATA/RC2 301931102

Agere Oscar E5-D4

This compared to the original PCB :

JABHZZRW R5GBP2 17094RRJHT

So I connected the new PCB and pluged the drive in my computer, it powers up but it starts to make a strange noise, a really anoying noise, like the head are not synced or something like that. In fact this noise only happen when the bios or the OS is trying to detect the drive, after it is ok.

A VIA Sata controller card only detected it as "SABRE", but I couldn't get the drive working to get my data back, on Windows or Linux.

Do you have any clue or any tip I should try ? I don't need it to work forever, just the time to transfer what is on it.
It is not the most valuable data, but it annoys me to loose it like that.

Thans for the clue but I don't really know where is the ROM, If that may help, I took two pictures, one of the old PCB and one of the new.

The pictures are a 'bit' blur because the camera is really bad, if you need something more sharp just tell me.

ROM is 8-pin-chip with inscription contained 25...

Rom has been changed from the old PCb to the new one, but the problem is still the same.
I noticed that the strange noise was there even when I just plugged the power supply connector, and not the SATA one, so it is like the heads fail to calibrate or something like that.

Do you think something inside is broken ? Or the PCB I got was not so compatible ?

It seems that HDA and surface are broken....

Where did you order it from?

The data on here (unfortunately) contains some irreplacable pictures of my son, this above all makes it very important for me to get this data back at any cost.'

Which sounds like Hebus there received the same PCB as I have now (that is fried). It's the little..... Capacitor? Resistor? Something? on the bottom left corner of the board (if looking at the bottom with the sata ports on the left side). Right behind the power input.

Unfortunately, this drive is a refurb. I think I got it from Woot a while back dirt cheap. It's my own fault for a) not having backed up, b) trusting a refurb with irreplacable date.

Give Pcba number eg R3GLA.

I'm sorry, I don't know exactly where to find that information. The drive is at home and I am at work at the moment, so I'll have to post back when I get home.

Note: the drive IS a refurbished drive and I didn't see any labels identifying the "PCBA" version. Worse comes to worse I can take a high-res picture of it and post it.

OK, where the serial number is, it says MBABSEPA T4GBA 190415L1JHM....

Is T4GBA the PCBA number?
