Open the drive in a clean room and make sure the platters and filter are free from defects before you spend any money. Why do you suspect a faulty pcb?

I did check the platters after seeing it had been opened. They are clean and in good shape.

I suspect the pcb mainly because the heads move back and forth across the platter, but the drive is not recognized by bios. Drive spins up fine.

I was hoping to pick up a whole disk if I could get enough info, that way if it is the head, I would have a set of those as well as a matching pcb.

Also, forgot to mention the drive stopped working after power spike & blackout. That mainly led me to suspect electronics (PCB)

Also useful, but again how do I find out MY dcm?

I don't mean to frustrate you, I appreciate your expertise and your time. This is all good info. But if I can't properly identify my drive, I can't get good working parts for it.

Hi,

Preamp is damaged IMHO after the power surge.

If that's the case, how do i determine replacement heads/preamp with having the DCM of the disk?

Any ideas?

I agree with pepe, but you really need special tools to verify the preamp circuit or your going to make it worse.

OK but in the absence of special tools......replacing the pcb and the preamp/head should work no?

Overkill, maybe, but if it fixes the drive, the client is willing to pay for it.
