no communication is coming from the head stack so its more likely damaged

the next opion you can try is buy another logic board
and see if the drive works

if it does not work your looking at a faulty damaged head stack

Looks like head problem but u can tried an hot swap, with donnor if the hdd doesnt knock if reach readiness DRDY DSC , so could be a SA problem, on that case u should be on first backup , then check all SA
we got some cases samsung wich knocks, where´s doesnt had MHA problems, even the log show´s like Head H0000+ or H0001+

Regards

You don't actually mean "hot swap" as I understand it, do you?!
Sounds a bit crazy...

I checked my stats, check the m/c for errors especially in err list. Try composite reading. I have a proprietary solution so don't know how to do with PCI, anyway via ata u.v. Commands you can try accessing the m/c. Maybe error lists have errors, or translator issue?

After giving reset signal did u check the user area ? If it was full of bad sector which cannot be removed by writing then its a head issue .

When Alist is overflowed the drive knocks and spins down but after reset i have seen most of the time user area is good but if heads are bad then hdd full of bad sectors .
