dmarques, and you have never had anything fall on the disk platter by accident? e.g eyelash, facial hair, skin flake or something from your clothes? I have tried a 'full suit' but it gets very hot and i start to sweat when staying in that for too long.

The only thing I had was some minor dust particles and normally after working on a drive I use compressed air to clean it when needed.

Thanks Zebong.

If anybody else finds any more photos of clean rooms - the more the better. Thanks to all so far who have helped and sent me PMs.

I've got a Laminar Flow bench, and wear long gloves. I also wear an ESD smock. I'm thinking about face protection, but I agree the full spacesuit is overkill. I have a particle counter, and it's good for peace of mind. I don't have a computer in there, but that's because I haven't figured out an elegant solution for putting one in there. Right now, I have a round glovebox next to a computer for when I need both.

I use a laminar flow bench, and anti-static gloves.
It happened to me once that a hair found it's way on to a platter  , but nothing that some compressed air could not handle. Now I also use a hair net to avoid this. Just like the feedback you received from many others, I also don't see the need for a full suit.

To establish a standard clean room is really costly and alwasy may be realized for big companies. But for small busines, I think it is better to wear clean room cloths and gloves in a house with relative clean air and use an air blow away tool to blow the particles will be safer to the hard drive. Hard drives are really vulnerable to the dust.

I surf on internet and find some information about air clean equipment, you can check this.

I remember a few years back when there were people making their own clean units from fish tanks and hepa filters!

Its nice to see the subject talked about professionally now. How times have changed....

Ah HA!

I wonder how the P. E. R2D2 is coming along. I have reinforced my lab with RSJ's in anticipation for my order.
