I recently had a fellow bring by a 500 GB Seagate 7200.11 drive after he swapped heads at a local university's CLASS 10 clean ROOM (nope, I didn't leave off a zero!) They had an extra-clean environment for semiconductor fabrication & the like.

He did a reasonably good job considering - I was able to slowly image about 80% of the drive with the head set that he used. But the sad thing is that no head swap was required - the original problem was a blown TVS and overheated DC power strip. Much simpler fixes!

I asked him how he loaded and unloaded the heads on the drive, and he said, "carefully."

I asked him why he swapped heads and he said that he saw a video on the internet and it appeared fairly easy to do. I didn't ask him how he concluded that heads needed swapping when he also knew the PCB was toast.

Say what you will . . . lo ipse dixit.

I've never seen a video posted about doing a head swap.

It is so simple to swap heads and platters and anything in HDDs. U can see on the videos...

What U cannot see is that the result is a readable and recoverable drive :)
Since it is not :P

Yet to see a video of a repair start to the end, with data recovered. Maybe there is, to busy daily, to sit on video sites to find out.

Just curious... With all the porn stuff seen on the internet why we don't have tons of porn stars? It's even easier and funnier than DR. Ah, now don't put the dick in the freezer if doesn't work...
