I have this external drive, Western Digital 3200 BEVT. At first, it stopped working, all the files were gone.
i then used HDD Low level format tool. it stopped and did not continued.
im using windows xp sp2, i use HDD Scan and it can detect the drive but windows can't.
im not into recovering the files but what im after is to repair the drive and be able to use it again.

what's the results when scanning the drive with hdd scan ?

If all sectors are (B) then it's FW problem, and you have to use special
software/hardware and knowledge to make the drive working again.
beside that you can simply RMA the drive as the data is not important to you.

maybe the drive is locked by ATA password too
