Hi,

Im new to forum and hdd recovery so need any advice you can give me.

I have a WD3200BB - 55KEA0 (DCM:HSBACAJCA) which i used as an ext drive.

After working fine I have found that next day it now clicks repeatedly when powered.
The ext psu of the ext drive enclosure also flashes on/off repeatedly (LED).

I removed drv from enclosure to check TVS's as described on post :
seagate-320gb-st3320820a-pcb-swap-t12189-20.html

Then once I removed the pcb I found the 'smooth' chip has been fried.

PCB no.: 2061-701314-000 AF

Please advise what options are available to me?

Many thanks in advance!!

Get a donor PCB. Swap the eeprom located at position U12. Cross ur fingers ( u may have damage to preamp, in this event swap wont help and will kill the donor PCB ) and fire up the drive.
Also u can look at OnePcbSolutions ( google em ) for donor purchase and moving the eeprom.

Gl Nird. The problem in ur case is that TVS did not work. The spike went through , had its way with ur smooth , and power was still on, since u heard the clicks, not the regular dead silence. So imho chances that pream is bad are high =(

It is going to be difficult really for you nird. Its not that simple and nobody really want to go in depth into this because there are many similar threads on this forum.

Your going to have to educate your self then you can fix it. Or you can skip that and send it to somebody with rep. I would do it but im afraid its the bigger problem and I cant fix that yet.

i can recommend
www.pcimage.co.uk - he does free eval and prices are good.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice.

One last thing......

If I was to replace the pcb with donor and swap the EEPROM and it DIDNT work.......would there still be much chance of DR pro retreiving data?

Yes- but it would be about twice to three times more expensive than originally quoted.

Thats Ppumkins opinion. Imho if u do no aditional damage - price will stay the same.

I gave u a DIY suggestion Nird. Here is the None DIY one =) Contact PCimage from this forum. Get the diagnostics and no obligation estimate for free.
