I've already spent 2 hours reading about this stuff. I'm a guru

Regarding my software development I've already implemented the ROM read feature. It runs on windows 7. Only that I don't know when to read the 128kb bios or 196kb version, and who said how many times I can read the rom log.

Let's move to the software. If someone knows...the VSC commands are processed by the ROM software...or there's a boot loader inside the MCU?

If it's inside the ROM code, it's clear that If I flash bogus data, the chip is bricked and requires external flashing method. Which I don't own, so during application development I could brick my testing hdd.
You are the guru so you should already know the answer.
Why are you coding software when you can get the same sort of software for free and knowing it will work for sure ?
There are ROM on the ROM chip and ROM masked inside MCU. PCB can work at "Kernel mode" meaning that if you flash bad ROM on ROM chip, PCB will be on Kernel Mode waiting for you to send commands to re-program ROM again. Didn't you know that, mr. guru ?
Why to go to the trouble of all of that for "stupid data" ? Forget it and move on.
Did you know that you can externaly load code to PCB RAM and make MCU execute it ? Of course you know, you are a GURU !
So what is the problem with your drive and why are you trying to build software to read sa if that software already exist and can't read sa on your drive ? Do you think your software will be better and will be able to read the sa that other software can't ?
Sorry to say that but you should be a little bit more modest and assume that you need help instead of trying to pretend to be a pro and superior when in fact it doesn't seam that you understand the basics about how WD drives work at all. But of course, we are all selfish guys that only want to make money so ...... there you go ...
