Do you have PC3000? If yes, try reading at least one sector. Watch the error status. If it shows you ERR ABT - it _IS_ password protected.

I have seen before Toshiba drives that get locked but with no password set. (In security status, it shows locked and no password set) I don't know if it's the same problem fuzzy have, but how you can unlock a drive if no password was set? I think it's some kind of firmware corruption, I don't know. I've tried all methods to unlock I can figure out (even the obvious ones, like try without password) but no solution at this time. Drive only gives ABRT with every command I send...

Yes Keiv.. you are right.. that exact it is doiing... i also did everything possible, but no avail,.. i did change hda, pcb exact, pcb swap. nothing works. so there is no way it could be unlocked ......

Toshibas 2.5" will be the next "maxtor athena"

Very easily they get SA corrupted, but you will have to wait for PCI PC3K to fix it ...

Weeks ago I use remote Repair station at http://hdd-tools.com to fix

I've tried to UNLOCK WD hdd with it and after hdd has been examined, program told me that it CAN unlock my hdd, but I have to buy any of their so called "plans" to enable unlocking function.

The question is: Is it really worth to buy it? Can they really unlock my hdd via some remote modules? Has anyone tried this?

Again, confirm. It can work in most cases. I used it and it worked, not on that model, but worked. You can choose a simply plan and try.
