Hey all,

Can someone please help me identify the eeprom(s) from this PCB that I would need to transfer onto a donor?

I got the drive to power on; before it would not do this. So, the activity light flashes during i/o, but the heads are definitely not moving as all I hear is just the whirring of the motor. No other unusual noises. Thoughts?

//edit -- the drive is recognized within windows, but any i/o operation fails

Get the mhdd software and run it on the drive to see if it detect correctly. The software is available here on the forum. Just search for it, read the manual before doing anything.

Just Tried mhdd. The drive is recognized properly, but cannot be read. Smart variables seem normal, but scan fails. Seek & read also fails. The spin up and spin down commands do work. When the drive spins up I can hear the head move into position and that's the only movement that it makes.

Repair the firmware. Simple.
You need in this order:
1) HW diagnostics
2) Know how 4D work.
With appropriate diagnose you can sort out if it is a head problem.

For HW diagnostics, do you mean clean room diagnostics on the HSA? Is there something about 4D specifically I should know? Can I flash new firmware or borrow the firmware from the donor?

He means you will have to use special tools and the cheapest you can go for is salvation data for maxtor .

Your drive have SA problem (Firmware) and you can't get another one, because all are unique, you need to repair the original.
For this, you will need professional gear, wich is more expensive than a simple recovery by any company.

If you need your data, and don't want to spend 10000$+ on, seek for professional help, this drive should be recovered cheap.
If you will get too much price, write here, maybe someone can help near you from this forum...
