Hi, I have a hdd that i need to gain access to.
Drive Details, sudo hdparm -I ata-ST9750420AS_5WS3PP0P
ATA device, with non-removable media Model Number: ST9750420AS Serial Number: 5WS3PP0P Firmware Revision: 0002DEM1 Transport: Serial
Security: Master password revision code = 22616 supported enabled locked not frozen expired: security count supported: enhanced erase Security level high
My details. Dell XPS L1501 laptop replaced with custom built laptop via insurance upgrade option. I retained the 750GB Hdd when the xps was sent off along with a 1TB drive that was in a caddy where the dvd used to be.
USB data case allows new laptop to see Seagate hdd but wants to format it. Placing the hdd in a spare sata port in the new laptop brings up a prompt at bios to enter password. a number of failed attempts later the hdd says its locked and booting continues to the primary drives in the new laptop.
I know my password. Well sort of. The password was in two parts. A word I entered then a keypress/hold on a yubikey. The yubikey is set to produced a static output of characters [68 i think].
When I was using the xps i would enter the human part then hold the yubikey and release. characters would enter the keyboard buffer until it beeped [presumably overflow of the buffer].
I have tried to enter a total of 32 characters with hdparm as sudo hdparm --security-mode h --user-master m --security-unlock xxxxxxxx[32max] ata-ST9750420AS_5WS3PP0P
but only get an error; SECURITY_UNLOCK: Input/output error
What I want. I want to be able to mount the disk so that i can copy parts of it off to another disk, prior to secure formating it. I will need to be able to interact with the drive such that I can get at the truecrypt partition on it [i know the password for that].
I tried googling for a bit, hence the hdparm and being here. I also tried a cd i have labled mhdd32 v4.6. However mhdd got me no where, as the seagate disk was seen but not ready or something similar.
can someone contact me to help me with this problem ? Neil
