HGST HDDs support the Format Unit (F7h) command. This merges the G-list into the P-list. The command is data destructive.

I think Hugo or Niagara should be able to do it. The technical details of the command are described in HGST product manuals.

Stop making your life difficult by interposing a USB bridge between the drive and the host. Use SATA mode.

https://hdd.by/victoria/ (Service -> HGST Vendor spec.)
Connect directly to the SATA motherboard.
Make an adapter for the power wire with a 5V and 12V switch.
To exit from frozen mode...

I am the only one confused with the amount of posts by this user, and the commentary?

Dude, seriously... A SMART failing drive should not be trusted to save data. You've posted in a DR community, we don't care about restoring drives to 100% operation, we just recover data and then duplicate to a new storage media. You have to think, if the SMART data suggests a failure there is an underlining cause. Popping a head or clearing SMART does not fix the underlying problem - it's masking it.

For such purpose buying a new disk may be cheaper.
