@Basco,

If you are offering these "services" for money to customers or even friends, you should consider :

1) buying some equipment
2) buy some REAL training for you
3) supporting this forum

(not necessarily in this order).

Anyway (and this is the last suggestion) this AP24 apparently have head issue and/or other internal problem.
Before you ask, the answer to "there's something I can do only with hyperterminal or free stuff" is "very unlikely".

Good luck.

This drive has been already backup, so don't be worry.
The issue is the limited LBA access, any useful help?

Re: Barracuda 7200.12 fw AP24 (what's the problem)?

Your harddisk seems to have pending sectors, obstructing the access to the data beyond a certain sector (in your case around 7 000 000).
This is unfortunately not easy to solve without proper knowledge and is not without risk.
Better to contact a pro in your neighbourhood. Sorry for the bad news.

i don't care about risk, data in this drive are already back up :)
What is the next thing i can try in terninal?

Re: Barracuda 7200.12 fw AP24 (what's the problem)?

if you already have the data for this drive, just rma back to seagate, or trash it.

I would not trust this drive even if you happen to repair.

But if you are just trying to lean about these drive. The errors you are getting are either caused by a failing reading head as blackst said, or a corrupted Translator. Neither of which there is an easy fix. the translator issues with the 7200.12 are nothing like the easy 7200.11 fixes.

Re: Barracuda 7200.12 fw AP24 (what's the problem)?

November 19th, 2012, 17:08

To say it all it seems fixable to me, either 100% or sacrificing part of the capacity but this can be pinpointed only when doing it.

But this is a thing I would trade for something else or have to send me the drive ... (you know, horses and human beings have the nasty habit to eat...) - and this is a thing that usually people want to avoid at all costs or is unpractical.... pointless.... good night.

I did the translator regeneration and after i did ^R
I get "InitiateMarkPendingReallocateRequest for disc_lba:" but after LBA 00007667 it stops.
Also i get Max Certify Rewrite Retries 14E8, is this normal?
The drive has still limited lba access!

Something still i can do to try a fix?

Professionals can with many hours of work :(
That command is very dangerous if a drive has problems, like your case.

Re: Barracuda 7200.12 fw AP24 (what's the problem)?

m0,2,2 - this does not take into account secondary defect lists for which translator is fully dependent on. Without maintaining this list, data is only partially accessible. Considering this is a clients HDD you should have paid more attention and should not have taken this case on unless you are absolutely sure about what you need to do.

BlackST wrote:
1) buying some equipment
2) buy some REAL training for you

this is good advice, and you should follow it before you cause the same level of unnecessary data loss for other 'clients'.

since you are unable to solve this yourself, you should outsource it to somebody who can. Very likely this will result in high recovery costs for your client due to the volume of manual work required to get it online.

Despite offering such services to your clients, this is simply a botched DIY and any other cases you have like this I suggest you consider outsourcing them.

But you professional could fix it with hyperterminal?
Or it's possible only with Pc3k, hd doctor, ecc... ?

Why are you so determined to repair if you have data? And if you could reach data before why you try 'm0' command anyway?
