Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello HDDGurus,
i did a stupid mistake by plugging in a 24V Psu into the 3.5" USB adapter of my HDD. With the correct PSU I'm not getting any rotation, vibration or sound..
I can't see anything bad on the PCB. I found this thread:
https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?t=31944What would you do?
Buy a used HE103UJ to replace the PCB? Or is there something similar possible like in the linked WD thread?
BR and thanks in advance!

Get a multimeter and check the TVS diodes and the 0 ohm resistor bottom right next to the SATA power connector. You can't just buy a board and do straight swap you'd have to move the rom.

Hey, thank you very much for the quick response.
I just checked the components. The 0 Ohm resisotor seems to be fine with 0 Ohm.
The left TVS is above 200 Ohms (OL), Diode Test isn't beeping in both directions. In on direction the multimeter is showing 950 Ohm and in the other 550 Ohm
The right TVS has about 6-8 Ohm. Diode Test is beeping in both directions
If I understood it correctly, they should "have a low resistance in the forward direction, and a high resistance in the reverse direction."
So both TVS are not working properly?

That's effectively a wire. Assuming there's no other damage it should be safe to remove it.

Hey Tomset, I checked both against multiple ground pins of the Sata Power connector., see Picture A

thanks for the feedback. I will remove the diode and see if it worked. On a closer look I notice that the solder joints on this TVS are browner than the joints of the left TVS. Refer to Picture B.
I will update this thread after I have removed the tvs.

I assume you are now busy making a backup
If you want to keep the drive in service you really should replace the TVS diode as you have no protection any more - the next time it's overvolted it will let the magic smoke out.

thank you very much for the wise words
Yes I already did backups and I will order some replacement diodes.
