DiamondMax 21 STM3320820A fw 3.AAE knocking sound

July 18th, 2013, 10:10

Hello,
i've this DiamondMax 21 STM3320820A family GALAXY 2D with firmware 3.AAE which spins up but doesn't calibrate, it does knocking sounds (about 1 every 2 seconds).
Motor doesn't spin down.
PCB number: 100414872
Sticker label: 100486542
MCU: 100427288

Teminal log:
Code:
F> HM HM HM HM HM
'for ever'...

At the moment i don't have an identical pcb donor to do other test, but i have a similar one.
So i tried to swap with donor:
PCB: 100406538
Sticker label: 100406536
MCU: 100427287

Drive spins, doesn't do any knocking sound, but is not detect in bios (haven't done yet the rom transfer).

Is this a PCB issue or something else?
Is this donor pcb compatible with mine?
How can i check the original pcb?
(i have a multimiter)

If you say that is compatible i can try to swap ROM.

I don't understand, if heads are bad why doesn't spin down?

Different architecture. Modern Seagate drives have technology based on SCSI architecture, pre-F3 dont,

Well, if you intentionally damage part of the code or mix it , even pre-F3 will forcefully spindown ...
