All hex value are same

Hi there!
I have a patient drive "MYBook External drive" which has not detected and clicking sound while it was powered.
After a head swap, the drive was identified fine. In recovery program its show all the hex value are same from the beginning till end of the drive.

Every single sector, including zero?

Show LBA's 0, 63 and 2048

Those in your screenshot look like encrypted blank sectors, encrypted by the USB bridge.

Those are encrypted 0x00's. I have an eye for that! (many of us may have it, sure :wink: ). Have you changed the original PCB, or are you reading using ATA commands or through its terminal, instead of SCSI (USB) commands?

EDIT: I misread MyBook and my head thought it was a MyPassport drive. I bet you're trying to read the drive without the original MyBook enclusure. It is mandatory for DR if encryption is enabled (by default on most countries)... so again, data is encrypted and most probably that's an all-zeroes zone.

Did you also change the PCB? every PCB is encrypted with drive firmware.

What is wrong with my post two people are saying same thing it is a PCB issue we have hands on experience.

May be you are right i don't have prove on it. is it combated with firmware or with PCB chip. but this is PCB encryption.

What a dumb discussion!

The "PCB" can be either the HDD's own PCB or the USB bridge PCB in the enclosure, and the firmware from the enclosure's PCB is the one doing the encryption in the MyBook... :P

To sum it all up. Get a full clone of the drive to a drive of equal size or set the HPA of the clone equal to the source. Then connect the clone to the original USB bridge. You may still need to run a data recovery program afterwards, depending on the effects of bad sectors.
