The "v" indicates the cathode, ie the striped end.

Hello :)

as promised, here is an update about the HDD.

I couldn't find a diode for replacement, so i tried using a wire, i removed the diode and added a wire as a replacement, but appearently something else is broken, because the HDD doesn't power on, no spinning, nothing.

I guess it's gone for good

Why would you replace a short circuit with another short circuit?

Look at my diagram. What do you think would happen if you were to connect a wire between +12V and ground?
