Friends,
I have one ST31000524AS and FW JC4B which recently have developed some complication.
Though it is detected, it disappears after 3 minutes and on sunsequent reboot it is detected.
I hope if i can upgrade with FW then the problem can be solved.
But unable to find suitable FW for upgradation. Someone please help to find out.

Seems like drive has FW issue. I advise you to try to connect terminal and find out problem.

You can operate terminal.
After power the disk you could hit ctrl z.
After or before you could,nt do.
And no need to isolate motor with paper..

Firstly, I would check it for media issues with something like MHDD or HDDSCAN (both downloadable from this forum).
I suspect it has bad sectors rather than a FW problem.
