Running windows 10...

I started getting the disk check at startup for D: partition which would usually take long and recur everytime I restarted the PC, so I started skipping it.
Then, the PC started getting stuck at and after the log-in screen to the extent that now even a video stored on the PC requires buffering after every few minutes running on VLC or opening a folder takes minutes and the taskbar gets stuck... Don't ask!
Now, its worse, the computer is pretty much NOT usable in Normal mode...

I started the PC in Safe mode and the PC is running fine, Everything is Fine! I ran disk check (using command prompt) for C:, it found some errors but ran smoothly & was quick at bootup after restarting, however, the disk check for D:, which ran while in safe mode, got stuck at "chkdsk is verifying usn journal…” :(
There has been a slight noise from the HDD but that has been there since I bought the laptop three years ago...

What do you guys think, is it a virus or is my hard disk failing :?: :?: ???

It's your hard disk failing.

Run a SMART check against the drive. Look for reallocated, pending or uncorrectable sectors.

I hope that was more helpful.
