if u did not write the native ROM, then still safe. Replace the Native ROM to the Donor PCB. have fun. and if u did the wrong, the last option goes to Advanced Pro, complex case.

Surley with such damage to the motor ic the board is in a short circuit condition and its not possible to write to the rom? Or maybe it is possible?

As the original poster is unable to recognise a motor ic from a rom I would swap the rom to the replacement board and keep my fingers crossed and hope I have had a lucky escape!

I give up...

In the VERY FIRST POST YOU SAID :

"i copied the rom file from the good drive and wrote it to the deffective drive. it is spinning but clicking. it is not coming to ready. any idea? i need the data on the drive."

Then later :

"hi,
i have not written to the rom on the burnt board..."

Then :

"well in the mean time... i did a hot swap in compass and started to do an image of the drive so far i am getting alot of orange reads.. no bad sectors.. so i will wait it out and see if i get an image...."

.... make up your mind ...

ok i guess i confused myself and i confused u...

when i first said i copied the rom from the defective board and saved it on the good board... i thought the rom was being saved on the SA of the bad drive.it seems all i did was save it back on the same rom...

as i have now realized my silly mistake...

i can say i have done nothing to the old burnt board. what i am now trying to do is do a hot swap using data compass and then to do an image...
