I have a same problem. Verify that Seagate PCB 100664987 (Rev A or B) maybe have relation with this problem. I have 4 seagate hdd with FAIL OP=0100 error.
Maybe short pcb like this post ? : forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25981

Check this voltage like this post:
forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29542&p=204040#p204040

Maybe PCB manufacturing problem ?

Please post next results.

Heads, most likely with some media damage on surfaces. Sometimes it is enough just to replace the heads stack, but I would say it is no more than ~10-20% of all cases. Sometimes there is nothing to recover at all, surfaces are scraped to dust completely, it is other ~10%. The remaining cases usually can be recovered, most of them partially, but require the right hands.
I would recommend to outsource them to someone who has experience of successful dealing with these drives and media damage cases. It is not an easy job, and requires much more than just commonly available DR equipment.

Thanks Waranha, and thanks Leo for answering.
i 'll try the PCB shortening.

Hi every one.
Does anyone knows about the tips of shortening the pcb?
Should the HD been power off, or on during shortening?.
And what to do next?.

Hi I had kind of the same problem, one day my external drive just died one day, even smelt like circuit burned, it last 3 years and maybe was turned off 10 days in all the three years, when I open the housing where it comes (not the hard drive) I saw a burned circuit in the internal adapter between the drive and the USB port, so I unplugged and tried to use it in a external USB base, but one circuit in the PCB of the hard drive burned!

I want to know if there is any chance to test the disk without the board in order to know if the PCB was the problem or if the problem for example the motor or some internal circuit, because if it is the PCB I am able to change it and change the BIOS from one to the other, but if the problem is internal on the HDD then I just throw it away.

The drive is the Seagate 3 TB Barracuda ST3000DM001 and the PCB is the 100664987 REV A

Thanks to all

Check these components:

Also, a photo would help.
