Hello.
I think I have a similar problem with a hdd from an external iomega case...
It is a ST3500830AS FIRM 3.AAD

The drive tries to spin up but after 30 sec gives up...
I have recorded an audio file, http://www.box.net/shared/jxhjmjgbxh
put your volume up to hear it...

I have bought a equal drive, should I try to swap the pcb? freeze it? or is it more serious?!

thanks....

Hi sofa-schlaffi,
I would stick to Pcimage and let him do the work for you, as he has the right tool for that job.
99% that your spindle is stucked and the bearings has broken down, the only (good) way to fix it is to move the platters (3 of them) and heads (6 of them) to a new chassie.

Best Regards
Bosse

Hi.

I swaped the PCB and the result was the same, the pcb works fine on the other drive..

What do you think it is?
Should I freeze it?

DO NOT freeze it. That WILL NOT fix it, and probably ruin the drive for good.

Like mr_spokk says, there's a very good chance the spindle is stuck.

Not a job for amateurs, no offence.

We have done loads of these, and it takes specialist equipment and skills.

Best regards

Sean

Maybe, but I've never heard of them.

We're in UK, if it's any help?

Or "dmarques" is in Portugal.

Hope this helps

Sean
