Hi all!
I can't jumper my Maxtor Diamondmax +8 into safe mode.
Can someone help me?
I try jumpers like this : [ATA] ['_::] [POWER]. The platter spins.
Is it correct ? Maybe PCB error ?
Waiting for answers and thanks.

Safe mode jumper setting for Maxtor - look on the web they are posted everywhere. There are some DR companies that post them. Just search and you will find them all over the place

Thank you for your answer!
I know this document. I set jumpers like ['_::] , but platter spins.
I tried ['II::] also, platter spins.
What is the problem: PCB, cable, motherboard ?

Problem is, you don't use PC 3000 card. If you use the card controller, this won't happen.

Bad PCB (or bad jumper), I think...
Try PCB only (without HDA). If PCB is OK it should report Ready after some time, if not it will stay Busy...

Not a problem at all...

If he directly connects the PCB and apply the power, and connect the IDE cable, of course drive will spin (without card controller) ---> if this not PC 3000 ISA (I'm talking about "cracked" version

:D)
With PC 3000 card controller, if drive spins in safe mode, the possibilities are :
1. LDR file already loaded.
2. bad PCB

Yes, platter spins without PC 3000 card.
Thanks replies.

Hi,
Can some one explain what 'safe mode' is?
I will probably sound very stupid in asking but I have learned that not asking is worse...
I gather that it 'opens' some sort of 'direct' access to the drive, but to me then it makes no sense calling it 'safe'...
Thanks!

It's like SEX. It is safe until you play unsafe with it...

Great observation!
Agree totally!

Sometimes jumpers lose their metal inserts, or fail to make a good connection.
Sorry if I'm belaboring the obvious . . . but be sure to try different jumpers.

Hi! Thanks for replies.
Safe mode= init hdd without hdd SA . I think so ...
I'll try other jumpers too.
What is the reason when Maxtor DM+8 modul SRV is 20h and not 1Fh. Can I upload pictures here?
Can I make/reach ALT_SA my hdd with hddrepair?
March 22nd, 2009, 14:46
Sorry, mistake: DISK modul PN is 20h not 1Fh.
I try but BMP not allowed.Try jpg...

Module numbers in HDD Repair Are not the same as in PC3000! They are shifted with 1...
Therefore module 20 in HDD Repair correspond to 1F in PC3000, 21 to 20, etc....

What a good tool

Thank you BGman!
I was warried about it.
Yes BlackST, this tool is not PC3000 but I have this.
One more question: how can I enter into ALT_SA with this tool, (if possible)?
(and how to switch back to normal SA)

With a proper loader...one for ALT-SA and one for MAIN-SA...

Hi ccc!
So this is possible with this tool. Thanks.
I will search for NCR** type loaders. I think so.
