Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Greetings to everyone,
I recently bought a NAS system and installed two identical WD 2,5" drives for testing purposes. I started to observe strange behaviour
when i disconnected the drives from NAS. Both drives make an strange noise randomly(seems to me random) like a restart from the motor. I can access the disk normally and backup my files, when the motor restarts it just pauses for 2 secs and then continue normally.I used CHKDSK to check the drive for errors and i even low-level format the drives. Both CHKDSK and simple format completed without the motor restart(strange noise). Using low-level format shows errors in many sectors then continues normally. The problem seems to occur when i access the disk and copy files from and to it.
I downloaded the sound files for WD disk but none seems to match my case. After reading some posts here i also tried to clean the disk contacts carefully but it didnt help much.
I could use some help here...any suggestions?

If you got the data off I would recommend RMAing them back to WD if they are under warranty, if not get rid of them or keep them for sentimental purposes .
I would replace them either way.

Agree with Cleanroom,
Sounds like bad sectors in multiple zones that makes the heads back to the parking area.
