Fujitsu - MHT clicking but heads are good

December 7th, 2009, 12:35

Hail to all Gurus.

I have Fujitsu MHT2040AH PL, FW: 02F9-006C. Drive spins up and then starts clicking, but not hard/loud. Stops after a while and switching to DRD DSC but no ID.

I took heads from good working donor and swapped them across. Now donor drive works OK with those heads but patient drive behaves exactly the same. Checked in Kernel mode and read ROM (PC3K shows ROM Info FW: D0-006C) and it seems to be OK. What could be the problem? Any ideas?

Thanks,
yco.

Already tried that, the same symptoms. Just guessing - SA/ROM corruption. Any chance to restore it?

I have some idea, i had some similar cases before...
I can try it if you want, for reasonable price.

Did you match firmware on donor to patient or swap ROM from patient to donor PCB?

I do not think MHT rom has adaptive info, so pcb swap with matching rom might help.

When you get dsc drd can you get SA access?

I tried just PCB swap and also transplanted ROM chip, still the same.

No, no access to SA, ID not detected.

Probably physical damage in SA area of disk.

is the drive supported within your pc3k, depends on what version you have some models aren't supported... just a suggestion

What do you mean HDD Spaz? How to do hot-swap with clicking drive?

Well not exactly, I used MHT2xxxAT utility, but does it make any difference?

no that wouldnt make a difference if its that close, you would be able to access the ID but not get to the firmware of the drive

I thought that mht family had adaptives in rom and pcb were unique... I had a mht2080ah with dead heads. Headswapped, and imaged the patient with donor pcb. Nothing but clicking using patient's pcb...
