seagate external usb hard drive problem

December 10th, 2010, 0:33

Hi All,

i own a sea gate external usb hard drive of 500 gb capacity.bought it a year back from usa.

Now the problem is that the drive is detectable by the laptop, but when i try to open it it is not responding at all,i tried to "error checking" but the hard drive is not responding.when i right clicked on the drive to view its properties,to my surprice its showing the used cum free space as 0 byt in blue color   .I tried to recover the data by recovery sw but in vain.

Please help me in solving the issue as there is important data(320gb) in it.

1)is it possible to bring the drive alive.
2)is it possible to retrieve the data from it? if so how? and using what sw?if possible links to it.

Thanks,
kasperr.

Hi,

Your case is probably a FW issue, so SW will not help you in this case.
If your data is valuable, best thing is to go find a DR company who can help you.

Id suggest opening up the external case ( NOT the drive ) and giving us a full model number and FW version of the drive.

If you don't have the right tools, you can't fix it.

Even if you have the right tools, you need the right knowledge for it.
