WD5000AAKS Bad PCB / Need to Hire Pro

August 31st, 2011, 15:21

Hello I was not sure which section of the forum to post so here goes. I need to hire a professional. I have been burned in the past by large data recovery companies with overcharging and would prefer to find a good honest price from one of the professionals here.

I have a WD My Book Essential Edition (WD5000P032) 500GB with a blown PCB. Inside the external drive shows a WD Caviar WD5000AAKS. The PCB has a bunch of burn marks so I am pretty sure it is all that needs to be replaced. I have an identical drive and when I put its PCB on the bad drive Windows recognizes the drive but because of the different PCB it cannot be read. I already know why it can't be read and would like to pay someone to recover the data and/or fix it.

If this is not the correct place in the forum please let me know where to post jobs.

Thanks,

GXR

You cant read the drive because most WD ext drives are encrypted by the usb board that burned up. i second the above reccomendation and they are WD warranty certifed as best I recall.

Thank you for the recommendations. We'll be happy to assist, and if your drive is under warranty, we'll get a replacement for you as part of the process.
