The problem is that I have forgotten a password to an old usb Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus, and would like to regain access to the data on the hdd. I have made several attempts to try to remember the DrivePass password with no success.
The hdd is labeled as a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 with firmware of 3.AFM, and is completely functional to the best of my knowledge. This disk drive was originally part of a usb Maxtor portable device. A password was set, forgotten, and the drive sat unused for a while. When removed from the Maxtor encasing, and connected to a Windows PC, Microsoft Disk Management does not recognize the hdd. The drive shows up and is recognized by HDDScan, SeaTools, and Microsoft Device Manager as ST3750640AS.

along with a bunch of other things, I have only listed a few to help shorten the post a bit
The hdd can still be connected as a portable usb hdd, is properly recognized by the Maxtor software, and still asks for the DrivePass password when plugged in. After about 4 tries, the hdd locks until powered down, and then turned back on. To unlock the hdd, the software recommends using its DriveErase feature. After speaking with Seagate Tech Support; this feature "erases the drive, but does not format the drive" and by formatting the drive without using DriveErase, there was no information that specifically stated the password would be removed from the drive. So, all data remains on the drive, I have not 'DriveErased' nor formatted the drive and still cannot access my data.
With all of that said, what could be the best option to regain access
(besides to remember the original password, lol) to this hdd?
