Hi All,

I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 issue. The drive doesn't spin and hasn't been dropped. Opened in a clean chamber and the spindle moves freely. Platters seem undamaged, no remenants on the air filters through microscope and the heads are on the platter due to no parking ramp.

I suspect PCB damage, probably more to the fact the drive is completely dead. I've checked TVS diodes and they produce fine results. No visible damage, even through microscope, so is it a possibility that the motor controller has died?

Drive specific information is stored in the ROM, but the firmware is still on the platters i believe, when attempting to hook it up to HD Doctor, not working due to not spinning, mind i'm checking once more tomorrow.

Now the interesting bit. I was looking through some spares we have, and i've found a PCB with same matching codes but on a bigger model.

I have ST3750630AS | PCB code is: UJAJ-6 100466824 | PCB Sticker is: 100468979

Donor ST31000340AS | PCB Code is: UJAJ-6 100466824 | PCB Sticker is: 100468979

If i attempt to do a ROM transfer would that work even though the Donor board is specific to a larger model? If it is possible is the ROM chip no.1 or no.2?

All the drive specifics from the donor are different, and i mean all (FW/Date Code/Manufactoring location/model etc). Thats why i'm unsure, i read contradicatory things online that say it doesn't matter about that as long as you have a PCB match by sticker code, but of course i would like confirmation.

Assuming the PCB is the problem, then yes you can swap the ROM chip and it will work on this board.

Pretty sure from memory (not at office right now) that chip 2 is the ROM, but please provide the numbers on both of the chips so I can verify that.

Chip #1 is not a ROM because it connects to the coil above it. That would make it a MOSFET or PWM controller in a switchmode regulator.

Both devices are serial flash memories, ie "ROMs".
