Hello.

Is is possible to recover the pre existed data from WD Smartware locked drive after formatting it.
Drive was locked by the password. and it a was then formatted. Can i recover the original contents.

I only need pictures (i guess .jpg) out of it.

I ran Rstudio but couldnt got my files, instead i got other type of files. Have a look on the attached files and guide me the possibilities.

Thank you.

Are files encrypted into some other file type?

Depends on how it was formatted?

The data is encrypted via a chip on a pcb and as far as i understand it the encryption/decryption key is overwritten with a new one when you use wd smartware to format it thus making recovery impossible.

If the drive was already unlocked & then formatted via my computer then possibly if it was a quick format. If a standard/long format in vista or win7 then no as it overwites the sectors.
