August 27th, 2012, 14:30

Dear Experts

i got this WD 2TB case where all modules are OK, heads are OK everything is OK
Except i cannot access any sector NONE OF THEM.

- tried hotswap to even see any sector (none same issue) and my donor is luckily same ROM ver. same Family same HM
- tried another pcb (same issue)

attached is the Log
Hardware modules checking
SA structure test

i got so sick of it really, never had such a case like that.

correct me if i wrong, there is no tool can tell you definitely if the head is totally ok even if the head can read & can write

You don't need a tool for automatic testing of each head, as there are ways to check if they are working fine or not.

Also, from my experience, Sadle drives are very tricky.

At least one of the heads is weak/bad......

There is....It is the tool you use to exchange heads...That tool will "tell" you if the heads were really ok or not :) ...

Also, from my experience, Sadle drives are very tricky.

Correct.

I'm interested to know what tools/methods you have used to test heads with, because from my experience the symptoms you are having are normally indicative of a bad head which could be pinpointed very quickly in 3K.

Try to edit headmap in ram and soft rest, then modify to original headmap again.
All sectors should be accessible but the weak heads.

Do you think he didn't try that yet? Like was said before , this drives are tricky , need another method to play with them.
I am pretty sure some head is "weak" .

Agree, perhaps the easiest step of the recovery.

Yes. I do. Of course we know it is because of Weak head(s). I used to clone the data with good heads then swap heads to clone the last data on weak head. If he had tested it, I think he could get partial data from this driver and wouldn't ask it.

Sorry for I had doubted you have tried.
Actually, this is a common sympton for Sadle G6. Both the Capacity and ID are correct , no clicking sound.
All modules are okay ( the 2E and 6F is usually bad), but the sectors are not accessable even clear module32 or fix slow.

And I am sure if you swap headmap to eg (2 3 3 3 3 3) then soft-reset and change head map to 2 3 4 5 6 7,
you can access the data, and will find a lot of bad sectors on certain head. The head(s) is(are) weak.
