Hello,

I have opend a WD800VE drive (IDE) and found that the heads are stuck on the platter and the magnets of the third and fourth heads are detached from heads and stuck on the platter in another place.

I could remove the magnet on the top by using a tweezers but with difficulty.

Is there a technique how to remove the magnet of the botton?

There are really no "methods" to removing the head sliders from the platters. But i would avoid removing them with any tool as your probably going to risk scratching the platters.

I would try heating the area with a heat gun (very low heat) with the HDD on its side. If it works they should just fall off the platters. I know heat isn't the best thing for platters but you don't have many options.

But if I change the heads without removing the magnet from the surface, it will not work as the new magnet will hit the one on the platter.

Its a head, not a magnet, for some reason its stuck to the platter due to stictation. Using a heat gun to warm the platter and magnet might make it loose. Again, strange how that happened the head must have been forced of the arm. Was the drive open in a clean room? It looks like there is dust on the platters, but that could be the image.

When I opened the drive in a clean room I found the magnet in that position. the head also is stuck (on the right).

the problem is not with the magnet on the top. I could remove it with tweezers . The problem is with the magnet on the bottom.

Those are NOT magnets...as stated before, it's the head (slider). If you have a plastic drinking straw you can flatten it and use it to remove the head on surface 0.

no it's the magnet. When I tried to remove the top one, it's very resistant and and can't be removed easily.

No, again. They are NOT magnets, they sliders and become stuck to the platter due to "stiction".

Yes, I have done this on many occasions. In fact only last week we had a WD3200BEVT in with all four sliders snapped off and stuck to the platters.

Tricky, but not as tricky as a 3-platter 1tb portable

Never had to perform this operation (yet) on a 4-platter Shrek drive, but not looking forward to it!!!

Possible without disassembling.
Lower part of the disk to the spindle in the cleaning solution from 3M for example.
Sliders themselves fall.
