Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Dear all,
I've a unit of 2.5' USB port Toshiba hard drive, the front part of the disk (0% - 14%) is having massive of unread sectors, but the the rest are running smooth (right after 14%)
Was thinking to try out with compatible SATA PCB and run the imaging in Deepspar but then I realized that's no ROM chip on the board.
What other option(s) do I have for this hard drive? I've Deepspar and DFL-DDL
Thanks in advance

Hi all,
A forumer named 'cmcraeslo' mentioned the IC606 is the ROM chip in
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26163&hilit=usb+port+toshiba&start=20, it looks like it is the ROM chip.
Will give it a try
Thanks

In that thread, there is a post that shows the USB board and the SATA board side by side (
http://prntscr.com/5hoxxw). You can see that IC606 appears only on the USB board whereas IC602 appears on both. I believe IC602 is your ROM and IC606 is for the USB-SATA bridge.

Hi Larry,
Now that's interesting. I didn't even notice that...
I'm searching for the donor SATA PCB, will see how it goes later.
Thanks again, Larry

Do you guys know if these use any type of encryption like the Passports do? I've yet to have one like this show up for recovery, but I know it's bound to happen sooner or later.

No this one does not have any encryption for sure.
You can also search for more threads in this forum ( Specially Western Digital ) about how to convert it to SATA just to gain more confidence.
I have marked the points for you.
Need further help PM
