Restore SB2OC70P firmware into a Hitachi disk

March 1st, 2015, 9:14

Hi

I have just received a Samsung M3 1TB that looks like a Samsung (even the package and instructions) but is a fake. Istead of Samsung, the case holds a used (8000 hours) HTS541680J9SA00 Hitachi 80GB drive with a tweaked firmware that makes the unit report 981GB.

When the SO tries to write beyond 80GB the drive fails and stops responding. So it is unusable.

I will have my money back, no problem with that, but now I would like to fix that HDD firmware so I can use it.

Right now it has the SB2OC70P firmware. I will need a flashing tool for hitachi and the original firmware.

Does anybody know if this can be found anyware in the net??

Thanks in advance.

Your first step is to call or email hitachi support and ask for firmware for HTS541680J9SA00. Firmware file comes with the flashing tool.

I have just sent them an email thought this URL http://www.hgst.com/support/create-case

Let's see if they reply properly.

Thank you!

I got no reply from them but I could use the hitachi FTOOL to set max LBA addressable sectors to 156301488 (that is the total number of sectors according to the manual).

Thank you!!
