I have tried looking for this error but couldn't find anything in here. If this already has been answered I am sorry for my double post.

Lets start with this: the drive was sused for non-vital storage. My important stuff is on a 4-disk zfs raid-z array, so some kind of n+1 redundancy. However, I would like to access this failed drive once more to get the data off and into my array (increase its capacity recently).

Problem: drive spins up, hear heads moving, spins down. BIOS not detecting/reports as 4.1GB

After looking at this and other boards I bought a USB CP2102 adapter and connected to drive.

It spins up, and give following errors after it spins down again. No input (CTRL+z) possible.

I tried isolating the spindle or the (I hope that is the right name for it) the HDA connector. Still gives the FAIL Servo etc.

Interesting for me is, that even if I completly dismount the PCB and boot it still gives the same error.

What puzzles me, if it is an "internal" problem (like heads) why does it still give this error if the PCB is completly isolated from the HDD?

Also, I cleaned the contacts on the PCB that go to the spindle and HDD as I read some 7200.14 got problems with it. It seemed there was some dirt or similar. Contacts are shiny again, but didnt help.

Sounds like, a bad heads.
Head can't find servo information on platter. Not DIY. Sorry.

If the heads are bad only solution is head replacement, right? Any 7200.14 head or only from 3 TB versions?

i wouldn't advise you replacing heads without experience, especially on DaMn series (you risking the data, and can cause permanent loss), but it's up to you (it's your data you can do whatever you want)

Because the heads are considered as "failing" in both modes as a "passing" signal was not received. It is just code. Does not know how to diferentiate. It's kind of being asked verbally what your name is. You will answer the same with your eyes open or covered.

Never gonna buy Seagate again. This was actually a RMA drive. Which failed like 1 month after guarantee expired. First SMART showed I/O errors. Support said that's only a firmware problem. So I updated. Shortly later this happened.

No. There is some testing done on every power on, so the drive is programmed to test the heads and see if they respond. If they don't respond as expected, then it spits the message you see. Very similar to fault codes on a car with the OBD system. Every time you turn the engine ignition on, some tests take place on the fly. If there are issues, you get messages on the digital display and/or lights pop up (service engine light for example) on the dashboard.
