Seagate - ROM Physical Damage [ Ground Leg No 4 ]

October 29th, 2015, 14:33

Hello ,
One Of My DR Recovery Colleagues In India Has Send Me One Case .The PCB Was Horrible Handled And I Am Now Stuck At One Place [ ROM Leg No 6 Just Comes Out ] . If No Ground No Data From IC .What Are My Chances Here .

Will This Work Or I Am Wasting My Time ...

1 :Get a Xray Done Of The Chip [ Can Someone Suggest What Kind Of Xray Would Be OK ]
2 : If i Do See a Small Wireline Trace i Dig Upto It And Test My Soldering Skill [ Not Bad At It Though ]
3 : Try Reading If Done Great Otherwise No Point .

Suggestions Please ...

Sometimes you can just wedge a sharp pair of tweezers in there and make the connection long enough to read it. I know it's worked for me on occasion.

Alternatively you can dig and solder a thin flexible wire to it, the way its used for Memory cards.
Generally GND Pin is a thick pin internally in my observation...

If you give up send the chip to Denmark i will read it for free - just to prove my concept :)

It seems to be pharaoh to me. I think the easiest way is to solder thin wires to the chip and read. If it fails, we can recover the data without the original rom from this family.

Silver conductive ink can be used to bond the thin strand of wire and make necessary connection , in case you cannot solder.
