I would say it's not possible for you even it's only some not serious SMART problems. Drive use special protocol for terminal mode that not the same like Seagate. I doubt you can solve it without special tools/utilities. And better to work via SATA interface, some utilities like WDR could help you. Or ask some profi guys in Poland (they there are) to help you, it is not expensive or even can be done for free. Good luck.

NO NEED To Terminal HERE
if you have good knowledge to work with HDD
you can work with Free WDR 5.3
if you didn't have it , i have good modified version
you can use it

1- Back UP HDD Firmware
2- try to hit Clear smart Button ( check smart after that , if not cleared go to next step )
3- Merge G To P
4- Clear and Regen translator
and your Problem will be fix 100 % after this step

if you can't do that , i can remotely help you
and don't play with HDD before you backup firmware

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but what's the point of clearing S.M.A.R.T. on a WD drive? Only reason I can think of is to sell it on ebay to an unsuspecting buyer who you're ripping off.

Generally yes, but sometimes you need to have good SMART because some systems prevent loading from drive with bad SMART (yeah, you can switch off SMART check in BIOS). Hope it will be used for personal reasons, not for selling.
