You cannot simply change s/n, the ROM contains other data absolutely 100% unique to the drive.

Why do you think "eeprom" has failed?

Chip is broken?

Hdd needs to replace pcb eeprom supply voltage pin short
supply voltage to eeprom 0V
I removed eeprom voltage nearly 3 v
i replaced eeprom voltage ok
i swap the suspected eeprom to new board same model except serial no
same voltage loading
eeprom HAS FAILED
NEW eeprom with old board detecting new hard disk

Hello,

I suppose it is a Pharaoh drive ST500DM002 with PN 1BD142. In that case i can recover it without original rom.
