Hello to all the community!

do any of you have the pinout to connect the COM/terminal to the TOSHIBA MQ 2,5" USB boards?

If yes, can you kindly share it?

The goal is to read the ROM through terminal on TOSHIBA USB boards

thank you

Cor

Have you soldered two pins in the first two holes of the row?

Thank you

What tool are you using to read the ROM ? PC3K/MRT ?

I'm waiting a reply from the support

I succeeded reading the ROM

But in both Toshiba and USB utilities I can't find the one to write it.

Apparently there is only the read command :-(

Well, if the idea is to use one ROM to move it to another PCB then you might be able to read CPs and copy CPs to the new ROM ...

Hello Spildit

In other words?

My idea is to avoid heating donor boards moving and removing chips.

So my point of reading the ROM is next to write it in the donor board.

I have never done this with PC-3000 and i have never done this with USB only PCBs.

But using SeDiv for Toshiba and SATA PCBs what you can do is to read CPs on the original PCB (or if you have a ROM dump just use this tool - http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1724 and this will extract CPs from ROM).

Now on the donor SATA drive (working) with the donor PCB on it just use SeDiv (or on your case PC-3000) and WRITE CPs from the patient drive/CPs extracted with the tool to the donor PCB. CPs will be saved to ROM.

Then you should be ok to go, as long as the ROM code is compatible. If ROM code is not compatible you might be in trouble.

Well.. if any ROM code compatibility checking is possible, the thing sounds as it could be possible to run a "loolks like smooth" process.

The idea is to do as with WD drives. There read from the USB and write into the SATA works straight with all the USB boards numbers/models (except one that makes me crazy, but that's anbother story)

What does work with all numbers/models ? Are you talking about WD drives or Toshiba ?

Can you write ROM back to ANY (SATA) Toshiba drive by terminal or have you problems with just some models ?

Ok...

Hello
No, my last sentence was referred to all WD USB boards.

This whole post is related to achieve the same as WD on Toshiba MQ USB

If you can't write back the ROM image then the best that you can do is write ROM CPs .... If you can't move ROM CPs to a compatible PCB because of ROM code diferences then your only option will be to either move ROM chip, programm it with external programmer or find a way to programm ROM by terminal (or ask ACE to implement that on PC3K).

If you don't have the capability to write the entire ROM like you do on WD by TTL then the other option to try (and i don't know if it will work) is to read CPs on the patient and move CPs to the donor. Maybe even if ROM code is not exactly the same as long as CPs match the patient you might be ok ....

It's just a question of trying out to see if it works.

Yes
Some experiments are needed

First recovery :-)

Next let's see

Please do let us know if you manage to copy CPs to donor ROM to make donor PCB to work on patient drive.

Regards.

Does the idea of a compatible ROM make any sense for Toshiba drives? If the firmware is mostly contained within the ROM, and if the SA contains only drive specific stuff like SMART and G-list, then does it matter if the ROM firmware is a different version?

My idea is to READ the ROM CPs on the patient and transplant them on the DONOR. This works fine for SATA-SATA PCBs. I don't know if it will work on SATA-USB PCBs.

Instead of reading a full ROM (ROM code + CPs on ROM) what i'm saying is that one could read only the CPs and move them from one PCB to another even if the ROM code is not the same. ROM itself (full rom image) on donor would be ROM code (donor) + CPs (ROM Modules) patient. Then PCB would be swaped to patient.
