Hi,

I hope it's the right place where ask, if not I apologize

I've a Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 (2000GB) and suddenly the PC stopped to recognize it

I've tried to replace the logical board with an identical one and it's recognized as a 8TB disk, then I've swapped the bios chip from the old PCB to the new one but again the disk is not see by the system

Can the BIOS be corrupted? I've just purchased a CH341 CH341A programmer (not yet delivered) and will try to read the old bios chip, in the meantime have you any suggestion?

For your information, with both bios chip I can't hear the disk spinning

Thanks in advance and regards

If the drive is spinning, then it's unlikely to be a PCB fault.

Most likely the original pcb is not faulty at all, and neither is the rom.
Have you checked whether the HDA contacts on the pcb are oxidised (blackened) by any chance?
Post a pic, if they are oxidised then try cleaning them by running an eraser over them, not too vigorously.

Thanks for the tip, I will try to clean the contacts and I will keep you in the loop. What I dont understand is: with a new PCB the HD is recognized with a wrong size maybe for the new bios chip but with the original PCB no disk is detect. I will post the PCB image soon, thank in advance

When you use the original rom, can you at least hear platters spinning or does everything remain silent?
If everything remains completely silent when using the original rom, the PUIS (Power-Up In Standby) feature may have been activated.
If so, try deactivating it using some tool like HDAT2 or MHDD.

I post here a little update

I took the original PCB and I've mounted back the original BIOS chip

The HDA contacts was a bit oxidized and I cleaned them with an eraser and isopropyl alcohol. When I put the disk in the system the initial spinning sound can be heard but the diagnostics is always the same: No hard disk found

I've also check with a digital multimeter most of resistors, diodes and fuses and I cant find any obvious problem

As I said, with a new identical PCB but with a different BIOS chip, the system recognize the disk but with a wrong size

In attach the PCM image

Thanks in advance
