I have the following Maxtor 6Y250P0 YAR41BW0 which just clicks constantly after a few seconds. What I have done so far with SalvationData Maxtor tools:

1. Safemode booted to SA-C and made loader from SA-A. Loader boots drive from safemode with no problems. Have perfect read/write access to SA-A and SA-B.
2. Checked firmware. No bad sectors or firmware problems.
3. Removed heads 0,1,2,4,and 5 one at a time but still get clicking.
4. Inside looks visually good. Nothing is binding the headstack.

This one is driving me NUTS. I'm thinking its a pcb problem or maybe headstack but not sure. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

If the drive boots with a loader it couldnt be a pcb issue sometimes this happen when rom is corrupt check if drive has external rom . If not like beto said MHA issue .

try to disable all heads except for head 3 - it should come ready
probably drive has more than one dead head this is why this - "3. Removed heads 0,1,2,4,and 5 one at a time but still get clicking" doesn't help
try to find out dead heads and disable them
do whatever you want after :)

I did try only head three but still get the clicking noise. Even tried the special head specific loader for Calyspo drives with no clicking. The weird thing is that I can read the firmware perfectly from head three with a ldr and it doesnt click. Disabling other heads was the first thing I tried. From 50% to 100% of the rom is empty making me think the rom is at fault or incorrectly programmed. The only problem is that I have nothing to compare it to at the moment. Other similiar roms with YAR41BW0 make use of the last half of the rom.

first of all if ROM is bad - drive will not spin up
Didn't you think what code will spin up the drive if ROM is bad?
And ROM has CS - drive will not spin up if ROM has bad CS

"first of all if ROM is bad - drive will not spin up"
I knew that.

"Didn't you think what code will spin up the drive if ROM is bad?"
I don't understand this sentence.

"And ROM has CS - drive will not spin up if ROM has bad CS"
I knew that. I wanted to compare it to a good rom.
