maxtor hard drive main logic board running hot

May 9th, 2010, 22:50

hi guys i wonder if someone can give me some advice.

sister daughter pc system went down and it contains all her projects and school work.

the problem with the drive is that the main pcb board is running a little bit to hot.
and its not picking up in the bios at all.

there is no clicking sound.
i dont think its a motor problem as there is no beeping noise

the problem could be a short on the board somewhere.
allso not sure if the preamp could be shorting out this might be causing the drive to run hot.

what im trying to find out is it possible to swap the old rom located on this board somewhere
onto another working board.
can someone point me to the right rom in the photos

or possible give me some ideas to check it out first.
voltages etc

cheers all

enclose is the photos

Maxtor PCBs are easy... no offense but if you consider yourself to be a DR tech you should know how to do it already (or at least know how to figure it out)

Is this drive being detected in the BIOS? Your DIY skills sound like they have the potential to kill all chance.
