Hi all,

I got today to my lab a memory card after it had been formated in Canon carmera.
This is the card:
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/6083/dsc04348n.jpg

The label drive that the carmere created for it is CANON_DC. The file sistem is FAT32.
I tried to run few known softwares for that recovery before taking seriously steps like unsoldering the chip out and connect it to a nand reader.
I don't understand why after a simple format from th carmera, non of the softwares can recover the data from it.
Any ideas?
Any good softwares?

Many Thanks!

Check it out with Winhex.

Do you see data there, or just "00"?

If there is data, try "photorec" on it. That sees Canon raw (CR2) files as well as regular JPG

Hi pcimage,

Thank you for the tip.
I got the software winhex but unfortunately just the 23 first rows are with data and all the rest are "00"..
(Or I didn't use winhex right).
Is there any chance of recovery data from that card after a simple format?
(Or it was an innocent format after all?!)

Many Thanks!

Even with Nand reader the recovery is impossible?
Or I didn't get the purpose of Nand reader?

Nand reader reads directly from the memorychip, but if the card is erased, the memorychip is erased; the result is the same.
Data is gone.

If the format method use internal erase, there's no chance. The mechanism require a command and the chips / card autonomously - in seconds! - perform a block erase and zerofill itself. Then the Fs and header is created. If the card is seen 'zeroed' , that's probably what happened.
