Apple SSD (Samsung MZ-JPU256T/0A6) liquid damage

November 18th, 2016, 18:13

Have an SSD from a Macbook Pro here that just gets hot and isn't recognized. Model is Samsung MZ-JPU256T/0A6. It went through ultrasonic cleaning already.

Attached are photos of an IC and area where I noticed corrosion. The IC is marked:
Code:
PSRI
4AK
A7HE

I believe it is this: http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps61086.pdf

Can anyone confirm this for me? None of those caps are short. Not too sure where to start otherwise.

Also are the flex cables for M.2 or Apple SSD so that you can probe both sides of the board while its plugged in?

I believe you have correctly identified the IC. I would measure the boosted output voltage.

I'm getting 11.95v. Known good measure 12.43v. Resistance to ground measure about the same, so I don't think it is short -- but would .5v be enough to make a difference?

I'd be surprised if the difference was of any consequence.

Any ideas on where to possibly go from here?

Examine the other chips?

Look for a serial diagnostic port?

JTAG port?

Hello,

I have a similar case. Where you able to recover data ? VBoost is 12.45V on mine.

Thanks
Claude

I got two like this. Power looks ok, they got DRD- DSC but then get BSY as soon as I try doing something. One had liquid, the other one was working with USB adapter and stopped working.

My findings to get into ROM mode but that's not very helpful in my case.

I've been looking at the board the only suspicious components I can find is this coil, It's open with probe on each side.
