I know exactly what you mean!! I often recieve HDD's with massive platter damage, but heads seem intact and filter is clean! Also, the previous DR company it went to were able to get a full recovery and even provided a file list. Customer did not approve their overpriced quote! The worst thing is I have got many disks with the same story, all from the same DR company!
There is professionalism, and then theres just plain old vandalism!!

Hi,
I also have met platters upside down and also I recovered the full data area after an MHA replacement but it was overwritten with garbage from LBA 63 till the end of the drive. And some other tricks... Just let me say one word: Kurt
So it is the best to be the first...

hmm still working on this weird problem
the hard drive went to pc world where someone has tried to swap the logic board
and possible they used the wrong type logic board on it
so the firmware rewritten over the disk (this is possible we are thinking now)
i suppose if the main rom is damaged does this mean the information is lost.
not to sure but we thinking it wroking fine
as you run aff and it says that the drive does not need recovering at all
we tried other programs diskpatch see the drive but zero data
get data back see the drive in windows but comes up with zero data error 55
does not move at all does not find tree files nothing.
O&O DiskRecovery see the drive then we pick the files wanted jpegs
its recovers folders but with zero bytes in them.
could this possible be a head problem not the right headstack
possible we got to match the year up
or possible they changed the design of the head
both drives are made in china so same source
tried hdd regenerator as a test comes up drive pickup in the bios
and the program see the drive
starts to read then comes up bad sector found repaired one and so on
the with in about 10 mins its found over 1,000 bad sectors
any other ideas guys about this problem
when we got the drive it was still sealed only thing someone did
was remove the logic board.
unit has had a full donor exchange headstack changed and platter swap

1. Does the serial number shown in MHDD pertain to the one printed on the label?
2. Kill the G-list, like odiferous and others said. You WILL need proper (not freebie) tools to do this.
