Friendly hint:
If you put a hard drive in a fish tank do you think it will boot (might be hard to tell if you have an aquarium screensaver)? Or by putting a DVD in a VHS player you will benefit from a higher quality picture?
You might want to just put the hard drive in and see what happens, then if you have problems the people on this forum might be able to help.

Do You mean you have got one of those ibm laptops which produces an error code on the screen when you replace the hard drive for a different make/model?
Otherwise i'm not sure what you require.

????????????????
Sorry, why is it necessary ??
Is the drive defect?
Is the laptop defect?
If you need advice, some background information would be helpful

Here is a 4SDM1 or 5SDM1 firmware update for the ST9160412AS:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloa ... eid=366463It addresses an issue with excessive load/unload cycle counts. Owners complain of too frequent clicking associated with an aggressive internal power management (APM) setting.
