Anyone know the answer?
I found HDP725025GLA380 but I don't know if that's the only option.

There *Should* be new 320GB drives out that are single platter with ramp.

I can agree with ramp, but why do you want only 1 platter hdd?
All the Hitachi has ramp, but i have never seen any with bearing problem, except one, wich was dropped hardly...

My dead hard drive is a multi platter with non-ramp heads, and as a result, makes it harder (and probably more expensive) to work with.
If I wanted to screw around with it myself and do a platter transplant, it would take a multi platter tool, and finding a way to unload the heads off the media. Doable, but not as easy or quick.
Now if it were a single platter with head ramps, I think it'd be a lot easier to swap it out. Correct?
Just asking the thread topic question to see if a large drive matching those specs exist.

I'm still curious to know why so many people
think that platter swap is the answer to their
problems. I think they read everything on the net,
EXCEPT the WARNINGS in this forum.

Hitachies are the worst drives for platter transplants
Even single platter is PITA
So far Seagates are the easiest drives for platter transplants for me

I'm afraid they don't read at all, they watch the pictures only...

How are the Seagates easier to swap out than the Hitachis?
I currently have all Seagate drives after a suggestion by a DR expert a few years back, but hopefully I'll never have to worry about that with proper backups.

You'll never know until you try
