What are solid state drives, how they works, good and bad things ?

Solid state drives are just that. No moving parts. Most use NAND flash which is a type of memory technology. Most have 10 or more years data retention because of wear leveling and general use considerations. Solid state is not appropriate for everything ( i.e. Swap files, etc.).

Consider it to be very much like a Nand-Flash USB stick but:

1. It has a different interface, SATA,IDE.
2. Internally is more 'intelligent' than a USB stick, possibly with more advanced Caching algorithms and larger ram buffers.
3. It has WAY more storage.
4. for non mechanical faults(damaged parts),it is WAY harder to fix than USB Stick devices.
5. it is generally in a form factor designed to replace a hard disk.
